Reward Amounts for Recovered MasterCard Payment Cards

MasterCard requires that acquiring banks should follow these guidelines for determining reward amounts for cards recovered by their merchants:
  • If the capture resulted from a "Merchant Suspicious" phone call, the reward amount should be $100.
  • If the capture did not result from a "Merchant Suspicious" phone call, the reward amount should be $50.
  • If the capture leads to the capturing of additional cards, the reward amount should be $50 for each captured card, with a maximum total of $250 per incident.
The stipulation that the person capturing the recovered card receives the reward as stated above does not prevent financial institutions from making mutually acceptable agreements between themselves regarding rewards.

MasterCard allows the acquiring bank involved in the recovery of a card to collect an administrative fee of $15 for its expenses incurred in processing the captured card. The acquiring bank may add this fee to the amount of the reward reimbursement or collect the fee separately.
